TAMATA

I’ve been wanting to create a tomato inspired object for soooo long. The whole time I was trying to make something that represents heirloom tomatoes. I love the ripples these tomatoes have, such an interesting form and cross section. But something just didn’t work. After a lot of prototyping, I realised that stripping a tomato to its simplest form looked the best. These coasters are simply uneven circles, like the top view of a tomato, but with a cutout for the star shaped stalk tomatoes have. The set comes with stand that is shaped like the stalk, with a slight curve on the edges so the coasters can sit snugly. I’ve secured these with rubber backings so it’s not too precious to be used well.
